Let’s start describing of Emo style phenomena from the main attribute –a shirt. Emo shirt must be very tight and very shabby. Important thing is a cool or ironic word combination in front and from behind. Such strange elements of the cloths are the most attractive attributes of every Emo.

Shirts, which were at the fashion top in the 17th, become usual cloths for Emo representatives. As supplement to it becomes a warm shirt, it’s important if it makes sport- or sport oriented appearance a little bit.

A universal Emo element is boxer’s shirt: it’s convenient to have it on on the concert, in the church, on the romantic Emo date. Having on something in Wild West cowboy’s style with cross embroidering plays a big role for Emos and it is the claim for leadership, which is to prove.

Emo also don’t suffer from being ordinary in winter, it’s enough fantasy to be different from the other people. A jacket with broken fastening, a shirt with a hood, or just loose coat gives a wide choice.

Emo style admirers can’t have shorts on; even it’s very warm outside. Their wardrobe is full of shabby jeans Ben Davis or trousers Dickies. And Emokid will never forget about a head-dress. Here pass a usual driver’s checkered cap with indecent words or beer brands; although an old shabby hat without peak or brim also is good looking.

Don’t forget about shoes. A teared boot is what you need. It’s not just a call but even a “spit” to the soul of ordinary people; it saves in all times. Except this variant also can be used long sport boots of the 70-80ths brands: Nike, Reebok, Saucony, New Balance, and Adidas. You must be stylish looking!

A good Emo wardrobe has no sexual different. It doesn’t matter if you are a man or a woman; everything we called is cool and attractive looking. The youth of course tries to distinguish itself with something more extravagant, that’s why Emo fashion always surprises with ornation and unprediction.

“A young girl has recently told me a secret: she is absorbed in Emo’s world. She is sure: she is Emo. Her words are fool of emotions and fear, she says about mental overstrain, strong emotional exhaustion etc.

She is fascinated by Emo music, reads about Emo in the Internet, in magazines, she created even her own Emo cite. The girl has just begun learning at school. She considers herself a lesbian; she tells very dramatic about her feeling of strong emotional pane. She is highly prospered, lives with her parents, who don’t understand what happens to the daughter. I’m their family friend and the one grown up to whom she can entrust.

I please you about some advice to help this young girl. May be, there are any especial questions to ask her? How can we switch her over on mental standard? What have I pay attention to that she says?

We have asked the Doctor of Philosophy and Psychology Joseph M Carver to answer our reader’s questions. Here is what he said:

“Teenagers’ period is very difficult for many boys and girls. They go through self-definition stage, caparisoning themselves with their parents and coevals. The teenagers look for support of the individuality by different coevals’ groups, which are bounded at secondary school, for example gothic, sport or skateboards amateurs, etc.

Emo is an essence, which exaggerates alienation feelings and emotional experience of many teenagers. Besides it supports teenagers’ confusion in the question about sexual belonging, coevals’ and grown up’s relations, and also depression. Teenager, who feels loneliness, deep depression, goes to influence of Gothic or Emo subculture, meeting here another teenagers, also confused, alienated and in mental experience. Unfortunately those support which as if is giving by such groups, makes longer mental sufferings in deed, stimulating the following alienation.

Quite possible, the girl is under pressure. I’d like to recommend you as a grown up, who can support pure girl, to pay especial attention to her oppressed condition, emotional pane and other symptoms of depression. Focusing only on Emos is not a good idea, because group accentuates on alienation, but not on return to normal healthy way of life. If grown ups drink because of depression and focusing on drinking they can loose the main thing which helps.

Talk to her – the adults have the same symptoms: they avoid fantasy, feel confusion, have troubles with concentration and etc. Tell how adults behavior in such times (they ask for advise, try to avoid new troubles). Mention that 15% of pupils from her class can’t finish school because their emotional troubles put them to another side: drugs, alcohol, pregnancy, “passions” and etc. Try to convince the girl to ask for help her parents, they help with treatment and solving the problem. This period in teenager’s life is very difficult, she needs support and admonition of her family, but not deranged advises from the Internet. She needn’t her own Emo cite, it’s unnecessary.”

It’s not surprising as researches prove the most active creators of the Internet-content are young people at the age of 25 and younger. They lead blogs, associate on forums, create own cites.

So, Emo kids gather on fan parties and when they have nothing to do. It’s easier to meet there an Emo girl or an Emo boy. If Emo party doesn’t take place in your town, one thing stays – the Internet.

There is no mysticism in it. In some Emo groups it’s just accepted to greet representatives of an opposite sex, easily touching strangers with the lips. It is not hygienic. As a result, one person with herpes has only to appear in company so he can quickly infect almost all the others. And the risk of infection is especially high by kissing Emo-pairs who waists quantity of time to this employment
Herpes virus is transmitted by contact way, and also with use subjects. The infection passing by air is also possible. The virus gets into the sensitive nervous conclusions and bases in the genetic system of nervous cells. Later it’s impossible to move away a virus from an organism, it stays with the man for the whole life. Quite another matter that Emo’s organism, exhausted by listening to emotional music and nervous experiences apropos and without cause, not always can adequately resist to herpes. And so, kissing Emos concern special risk group. Take care and be careful in case of personal hygiene!

Regional Department of Education sent circulars to al schools, warning about social danger of this youth stream. The character of these circulars is exceptionally recommending. In the paper is confirmed: every Emo’s dream is to dye in the bath from blood loss after cutting of own vein on wrists. Because of that some of them have bands, hiding got wounds.” Typical appearance of Emo is also described: pink-black dress, bluish-black hair, black nails, pirsing.

A possible base for such circulars can be a letter of director of Federal Security Department in Novgorod area Oleg Hramov to Area Governor Valery Shanceff: the experts of Federal Security Department warn about teenagers’ suicide cases in other regions.
This circular of Department of Education didn’t any stir in Novgorod schools. Many school directors’ opinions are the same: there are representatives of this stream in every school, and everything what the teachers can do is having educational conversations with teenagers.

“We discussed this letter on teachers’ conference – the Director of Novgorod school N30 Lora Antonova said in the interview for “Independent Newspaper” – Now we have not any Emo admirer. Our pupils do not become Emo; Emos are only those teenagers, who come to our school from the others. One such girl learned last year. What do we do? We try to talk to them and are warring because they can sag other pupils.”

The director of the school N91 Igor Bogdanov also appreciates skeptic the effect of such prophylactic measures:” There are two or three of this stream representatives. We talk to them of course but they don’t react. The youth doesn’t react to grown ups’ talking – although we are Emos, fascists, scouts, pioneers. So to say, you are grown ups, you need to talk, so you may talk.”

In my opinion Emos choose wrong name – it would be better to call pioneers or bears – so they’d have nothing for it. The suicide take place not only among Emos, it was also in pioneers’ époque. It is not a question of a belonging to some group, but of the concrete men’s mentality.”

Iren, Moscow: “I have Emo familiars. All of them are very alive, although they are already five years in stream. I think suicide theme is much exaggerated.”

Singel: “We have not to fight , but to watch by our own children. All my life I was a Metallist (and so I am now) and no one felt bad because of it, I was well up brought. I have also Emo familiars; they live quite and disturb nobody (some of them are already 25-26 years old). People choose a style and follow it, and I see nothing wrong in it till the style doesn’t harm to anyone.”

Alex, Sent Petersburg:” Now Federal Security Department as earlier starts to watch by youth subcultures (in face of Department of Education) so they have nothing to do, they called all enemies as friends? So is it? Long hair is to cut. Short hair is to grow, blonde is to become brunette, brunette to blonde, and what is red to do?

AmaZonka:” It seems to me when one likes something, but it’s to forbid, so this hobby will be demonstrated, this is what we run up at least. If Emos will be removed at schools they get somewhere to basements or garrets, so it will only worth.”

Pavel, Krasnodar: “I’m only for parents to pay more attention to their children at the difficult age. So the situation would be much better.”
